The Many Blessings of Music

the-many-blessings-of-musicWhen I was growing up on the farm in Nebraska, my piano was my best friend. My mother said she could tell what kind of day I had had at school by what I was playing when she came home from work! Sitting on that piano bench, I poured out my emotions from elation to devastation. Years later, when I went through my divorce, and felt so devastated I couldn't pray, I would sit at the piano and play hymns to God.

Several years ago I came across a CD series called “Sound Health®” produced by ABT (Advanced Brain Technologies) Music which included “Music for Concentration,” “Music for Learning” “Music for Inspiration,” and many more. When I first started offering our 8 Hour Miracle™ service, I would take “Music to De-Stress” to start off our day when the client was uncertain about our process, and “Music for Productivity” for after lunch when energy was sagging!

Last week I picked up a newly released book published by ABT entitled: “Your Playlist Can Change Your Life: 10 Proven Ways Your Favorite Music Can Revolutionize Your Health, Memory, Organization, Alertness, and More.” The authors outline ten scientifically proven ways that music can help you heighten your level of peak performance and achieve better health and harmony in your daily life.

Several years ago when my husband was still working and went to work early, I used to play the piano for at least an hour every morning. When he retired and our routine changed, I got out of the habit. In a recent coaching session, I was reminded of the importance of “rejuvenation,” -- and nothing rejuvenates me like playing the piano, so I've put that back on my priority list. Even more exciting to me is that I have reserved our church for a Saturday evening in August to play a concert with a colleague and several promising young musicians to raise money for Zoe Ministry -- a non-profit organizations which teaches orphan children how to be entrepreneurs. We’re calling it the “Harbingers of Hope” concert. Now I've told you about it, so I’ll have to follow through! Another blessing of music for me!
