The latest technical rage is "Siri" -- the Apple iPhone 4S digital assistant. Don't get me wrong -- my iPhone is one of my favorite productivity tools, and I love technology (at least sometimes!). After all, a major part of my business is helping individuals and businesses convert from paper to digital, but I am confident that no one is going to have a more productive or meaningful life by asking Siri. To the question, "What is the meaning of life?" Siri answered "Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try to live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations." While this certainly includes good advice, I doubt anyone will find true meaning in it.
One of the major questions everyone has to answer in life (or will by default, if not by choice) is: "Where do I go to find out what really matters?"
I'm sad to admit it, but it's taken me nearly 60 years to figure out that my best advice comes from the Bible. I became a Christian when I was a child and was raised in the church, but frankly I never spent much time reading my Bible, and I certainly didn't spend anytime meditating on it! I was too busy reading self-help books and going to self-help seminars. I know they've made a positive difference in my life, and I still love reading and listening to other people, but I've discovered that true peace for me comes only when I listen to my Creator through His Holy Word.
LIke many other habits, it's often a little thing that makes a big difference, and for me, it's making sure that the first hour of my day is spent in the Bible. My biggest regret about my parenting is that I didn't demonstrate that truth to my children growing up.
Thankfully my Bible tells me that God will restore the years the locusts have eaten, so I'm trusting that my mistake will be rectified by God Himself in due time.
